Course Objective:
The SSI Open Water Diver Certification is designed to teach new divers the essential skills and knowledge to become safe, confident, and independent scuba divers.
Prerequisites:
- 10-15 years old for the SSI Junior Open Water Diver Certification (Limited to 40 feet and must dive with a parent or guardian)
- 16 years old for the SSI Open Water Diver Certification
- Must be comfortable in the water and able to swim
- Complete the SSI Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire
- If you answer “YES” to any questions, a physician’s approval is required before participating.
- PLEASE NOTE: We cannot allow you in the water without a signed medical form if required, safety is our top priority!

What’s Involved?
- Independent Study – Complete the SSI Open Water eLearning Course to learn fundamental scuba diving concepts.
- Confined Water Training – Practice essential scuba skills in a controlled, shallow-water environment.
- Water Skills Assessments – A 200-yard swim & 10-minute float to ensure comfort in the water.
- Open Water Dives – (4 dives) Review skills and explore the beautiful reefs of Coki Beach.

Recommended Equipment:
- Mask, Snorkel, Booties & Fins
- Full SSI Open Water Diver Certification includes SSI eLearning, course materials, rental equipment, additional air fills, tuition, and certification fees.
Class Size & Personalized Instruction:
We specialize in small, personalized courses to give each student the attention they need.
- Maximum class size: 4 students per instructor
- Private classes are available
Course Duration:
The SSI Open Water Diver Course is performance-based, meaning we work at your pace until you’re 100% comfortable with the skills. On average, the course includes:
- Independent Study: 5-10 hours*
- Classroom Review: 1 hour*
- Confined Water Training: 8 hours*
- Open Water Certification Dives: Two half-days*
*Times are estimated and vary based on student progress.
*Completed in approximately 3 consecutive days (9 AM – 4 PM)
Open Water Referral Option:
Already completed your classroom and pool training elsewhere. Finish your certification with us!
- Includes a review session, confined water refresher, and 4 open water dives.
- Just bring your referral paperwork from your original dive center.
- Includes rental gear, additional air fills, tuition, and certification fees.
- Completed in approximately 2 consecutive days (9 AM – 2 PM).
- Does not include classroom and confined water training.
